As of
January 2008, Lumen Gallery, Lumen Photography Foundation’s independent photo
gallery, operates at a proprietary location on Mikszáth Kálmán tér. The
exhibitions alternate in one-month turns, and for the most part present the
works of young artists and groups of artists who find it hard to get a chance
for organising individual exhibitions. The gallery particularly supports works
ready for dialogue, adapting and responding to the context. In accordance with
this, we invite young artists who react sensitively to the social aspects of
art, and this is reflected by their creative strategies.
One of the major goals of the Foundation is to popularise international trends
in Hungary
and to establish the widest possible collaboration with numerous Hungarian and
European fellow-organisations.
The gallery is not only open before the professional public. The location
provides an opportunity for involving a wider public as well. The gallery
endeavours to create a forum for the most interesting
works in photography and video art, also reaching people who are not frequent
museum-visitors. The special character of the gallery is derives from its
location: it does not force the spectator into the position of the
museum-visitor in its classical sense, but allows for the contemplation of the
works of art in an informal atmosphere, in a space organically rooted in its
surroundings.
