Lumen Photography Foundation was established in 2002 with the objective of edifying our visual culture by popularising and supporting the work of artists who use photography and video as medium. It is especially important that our projects be presented before the widest possible range of spectators (public events, Lumen Gallery), in order to attract the active attention of a receptive public.

Thus the programs of Lumen are generally founded on intelligible social, historical or political issues of common interest, and scarcely on pure aesthetics. The reason that our activity is centred around photography is that we consider these media the most effective means of documenting and exploring our times.
The operation of the organisation is project-based, adopting a common operational structure. The board of curators is open for external, voluntary initiatives.

It is also important for us to make joint programs in collaboration with Hungarian and foreign fellow organisations. This is how we wish to facilitate the realisation of dialogues across groups, disciplines and frontiers.
